Rain
Forest
Conservation Program in Golfito
True to its mission, the "Universidad de Golfito
Foundation" (FUdG) has a Rain Forest
Conservation Program in
order to raise funds to acquire and protect endangered primary forests
in the Golfito area. Specifically, our conservation efforts are
focused in the lowlands of the Amistosa Biological Corridor.
Currently, the FUdG has purchased and
received as donation several tracks of rainforest in three strategic
sectors of the lower Amistosa. Each sector represent
three different levels of human pressures to the rain forest, thus each
are only open to researchers. Our main site is the Km23 Field
Station, which provides access to the Southeast sector of the Golfito
forest. At the Main Station, we have laboratories and our
administrative offices. The Km32 Field Station provides access to
the Mid-Eastern sector, while the Km32 site provides
access to the central sector of these Amistosa forests.
Although we have have been able to
protect these forest sector, there still a lot more in need of
protection, before it is illegaly destroyed by loggers and cattle
ranchers. It is estimated that
more than 5,000 hectares of primary forest are in serious danger of
being lost forever. Fortunately, most of the current
owners are very willing to sell those forests to the University
Foundation at a
very affordable price.
Your donation could make a big difference in protecting
these forests. The FUdG
accepts
donations to acquire more endangered rain forest. We urgently
require
$190,000 dollars to acquire 258 hectares of primary forest before it is
sold to loggers. Please, send
us your contribution by
cheque or by wire transfer. Click

Programa de Conservación de los Recursos
Naturales.
